About Bowen Therapy

Bowen therapy, also called Bowenwork or Bowtech, is a form of bodywork created by Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916–1982) in Australia. It involves gently stretching the fascia — the soft tissue that covers all your muscles and organs — to promote pain relief.

 

Specifically, this form of therapy uses precise and gentle, rolling hand movements. These motions focus on the muscles, tendons, and ligaments, along with the fascia and skin around them. The idea is to reduce pain by stimulating the nervous system.

 

This type of therapy acts on the autonomic nervous system. It’s said to inhibit the sympathetic nervous system (your fight-or-flight response) and activate the parasympathetic nervous system (your rest-and-digest response).

Bowen therapy is used to treat a variety of ailments. Generally, it’s done to relieve pain and increase motor function. Depending on the underlying symptoms, it may be used as a complementary or alternative treatment.

About Holly

Holly Kimber is a Bowen Therapist with a deep passion for supporting the body’s natural ability to adapt, heal and find ease. She works with clients to gently navigate change and discomfort, using Bowen Therapy to encourage balance within the nervous system and the body as a whole.

 

Already immersed in the study of natural approaches to health and wellbeing, Holly first encountered Bowen Therapy after experiencing significant relief from a long-standing hip injury. The subtle yet profound shifts she experienced sparked a lasting respect for the practice that continues to deepen with each treatment she offers.

 

Her approach draws on a broad background in natural health, combining Bowen Therapy with complementary soft tissue techniques to support function, calm the nervous system and invite lasting change.

 

As a mother, daughter, sister and friend, Holly is passionate about working with people at all stages of life. Whether navigating stress, pain or periods of transition, she meets each client with care, curiosity and respect for the body’s innate wisdom.
